Discover one of the most daring allied operations of WWII.

The Arctic Convoys were a monumental collaborative effort to provide aid to the Soviet Union to bolster its defences against the invading German forces. The supplies were delivered by merchant vessels, escorted by warships, and shielded by air cover. The route went through perilous Arctic waters, and the ships sailed under the constant threat of air, surface vessel, and u-boat attacks.

Our museum has a large collection of artefacts and memorabilia, including: ships’ instruments, uniforms, photographs, written accounts, ships’ logs, medals, toys, models, and much more.

West Highland Museum is situated in the heart of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. The collections tell the story of the region and its history. Our most renowned collections relate to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite cause, as well as the Commandos who trained here during World War II.

Glenfinnan Station Museum is located on a working West Highland railway station featuring the story of the West Highland Line and Glenfinnan Viaduct. There is a restored booking office exhibition, Dining & Sleeping cars, Viaduct trail and Signal Box demonstrations.  

The indoor exhibition provides interesting facts and stories about the spectacular Glenfinnan Viaduct and life on the West Highland line, while the outdoor exhibits tell the story of a rural Scottish railway station over the last century.

The Museum is on the Iron Road to the Isles and is a picturesque heritage site celebrating the work of earlier generations on the West Highland Line.’

Grantown Museum is a community run social history museum exploring the stories and people of Grantown from its founding in 1795. Discover the town’s history, Clan Grant, great inventions, kids activities, electrifying objects, dressing up, photographic and family history archive as well as fantastic annual exhibitions, gallery, shop and visitor information centre.  Open April -Oct, Mon-Sat 10am – 5pm

Located in the ancient province of Strathnaver, scene of some of the more brutal acts of the Highland Clearances, it is unsurprising this is the main story told by Strathnaver Museum. From the pulpit which dominates the main room Rev. Mackenzie was obliged to read out eviction notices in 1819. Of particular interest to those of Mackay ancestry is the Clan Mackay Centre on the upper floor of the museum. Don’t miss the impressive Farr Stone, dating from c.850AD, to be found in the graveyard or the Bronze Age Chealamy Beaker. Free maps available: Strathnaver Trail and Rob Donn Trail.
